Remedial Massage

Before each session I always consult you as to what style of massage you would prefer: Relaxing Swedish style or Therapeutic Deep Tissue style. My Remedial Massage Therapy incorporates both these styles and more. Because some people have specific neck, back or joint problems, deep tissue massage may be required to alleviate pain and muscle spasms. They also may require stretching of muscles and "range of movement" exercises to help with joints that are tight and painful. I tailor your massage to suit you, and your specific muscle or joint problems, consulting with you all the way so that you are informed and educated as to what is happening with your muscular system.

Swedish Massage

This style of massage is much more relaxing with more superficial, gentler movements by the masseuse, much less penetrating and hence, less painful. It is very beneficial for the blood and lymphatic circulatory systems as well as being a relaxing but energising experience for the client.

Reflexology

The principles of Reflexology embody the techniques designed to keep the body's systems operating at peak efficiency, or keeping the body's systems in homeostasis. (From the Greek, a state of equilibrium or balance.)

THE DEFINITION OF FOOT AND HAND REFLEXOLOGY:
Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Reflexology is a unique method of using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas.

WHAT REFLEXOLOGY DOES:

  • Relieves stress and tension.
  • Improves nerve and blood supply.
  • Helps nature to normalise / achieve homeostasis.

HISTORY OF REFLEXOLOGY:
The oldest record of the use of Reflexology, not that it was called that, is found in the "Physicians Tomb" in Egypt.
It is one of six pictographs depicting events from birth to embalming. It seems probable that Reflexology slowly migrated north through Greece and Arabia, then on to Europe through the Roman Empire. At the same time it spread east to India and via the Buddhist monks to China and throughout the east to Japan. Reflexology as we know it today was researched and developed by an American named Eunice Ingham, in the early 1930's
